Who is Negar Mortazavi?
Mortazavi is a key member of Iran's network of apologists/lobbyists in the West. She is active in pushing the regime's talking points in mainstream media & establishing ties to high profile figures.
Negar Mortazavi
Born in Tehran, Iran (1981)
Mortazavi left Iran at the age of 20 and began her career by working at different Persian-language news networks. She has worked for many outlets in the United States, including Voice of America. Mortazavi has collaborated with a variety of mainstream media networks including the Independent, BBC, Al Jazeera, MSNBC, PRI, The New York Times, CNN, and the Huffington Post.
She formally joined Iran’s DC-based lobby group, the National Iranian American Council (NIAC) in 2014 and prior to that she worked as a media advisor to NIAC.
Mortazavi’s collaboration with NIAC was not limited to media management. She was highly active on the sidelines of sessions chaired by then NIAC founder and then president Trita Parsi. Mortazavi was involved in preparing media reports about NIAC and landing interviews with various media outlets.
With the information and expertise that Mortazavi has gained in the media she has been able to deceive many Americans into believing her talking points that she usually delivers in interviews. For years she was especially useful to NIAC’s gaining influence and legitimacy in Washington’s political spectrum.
Her knowledge of the media has made Mortazavi a powerful figure/tool for the Iranian regime and led to the success of NIAC in the media and also across various social media platforms. Even the Guardian told its readers to follow Mortazavi on Twitter. Twitter founder Jack Dorsey follows Mortazavi on Twitter. Her articles and reports have long helped NIAC attract attention and push through their agendas.
Negar Mortazavi has also directed video conferences held by NIAC’s members. She had planned a conference recently (that was later cancelled by European governments) aiming to provide a platform for Trita Parsi to literally lobby for the Iranian regime in Europe. Mortazavi is an important and effective asset for Tehran in bolding the regime’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and other Iranian regime officials.
Listen to how Mortazavi whitewashes the regime’s lethal crackdown of the November 2019 nationwide protests. Authorities gunned and murdered over 1,500 protesters.
Mortazavi and NIAC members have been active recently on planning their seminars and holding their conferences by a new institution in Canada by the name of the “Institute for Peace and Diplomacy.” This is another entity that has been active in Canada pursuing the Iranian regime’s agenda with the same tactics used by NIAC in the U.S.
Finally, it is important to note how Iran’s regime uses “reporters” and “journalists” in the West to pursue its malign objectives. The words of this former Iranian intelligence minister are quite telling, to say the least.
